Your Pup's          S'Paw Day

What to Expect

First Appointment Arrival

When you arrive, you can come to the front door, the salon is in the basement (if your dog absolutely cannot do stairs, please talk to me ahead of time and they can come through the garage!) Your pup will then be able to get off leash and roam around the salon to get to know how it feels. You will fill out paperwork while Laura observes and gets to know a little about your pup's behavior. After you leave, Laura will often just spend some time gaining your pups love and trust

before she even begins his/her groom.

Paperwork

You will have a people page to fill out about yourself including contact information and liability release signatures. A second page will be all about your pup. You do not have to bring proof of vaccinations, but Dreamy Doggies LLC

does ask you to sign off that they are up to date.

Pre-Pet Observation

After you leave (yes, most pups DO act better when Mom and Dad aren't around to show off to), your pup will start  by getting on the table and will be given pets from ear tips to tail to check for severe matting, skin issues, wounds, etc. (Some of these things will become more apparent after the bath, but we like to be through. If you know of any injuries or odd spots on your pup, please let me know at check in. If a dog needs it, sometimes they get a pre-shave before their bath.

Bath Time

Next is wet fun! We get in the tub and get both shampoo and conditioner that I have picked based on your dog's allergies, fur type, skin condition, and amount of dirty. This should clean down to the skin, not just the surface. Then we get a good towel dry to get at much water out of their coat as possible.

The Dreaded Blow Dryer

Most dogs do actually get used to this part. I work slowly finding out where they are comfortable with stronger air and where they need a more gentle blow. This is one of the most important parts of the groom. It straightens their hair, blows out undercoat without the tugging of brushing, and a dog has to be 100% dry for a good haircut! (Even dogs that are more wrinkly than hair need dried well so they don't get irritations in their wrinkles!

De-shed

Now is the time. Special tools and conditioner are used to remove any extra undercoat and mats.

Paw'Dicure

This is attention to the feet. We shave the hair between their pads, trim the nails as short as possible,

and then file them smooth.

Haircut and Details

If so desired this is when your pet gets their personality cut into their fur. Body, head, face, ears, tail, feet. All are given attention. We also clean the insides of his or her ears and pluck the hair if necessary. And he or she gets a squirt of antibacterial breath spray!

Final Photos

S'Paw Day should be special for your pup. So when they are done, they stay up on the table to reinforce that it is a happy place. They get some treats, pictures, a special bow or bandana, cuddles... You are texted that they are ready to be picked up! Then they are let down to wander around the salon until Mom or Dad comes to pick them up. Sometimes this time is used for extra groomer cuddles and kisses, all of which reinforces a safe and comfortable environment.
